TomTom Model(s)

I just bought a used Tom Tom one - on a cross country trip - I'm in Albany NY (city) and I cannot get my device to get a GOS signal AT ALL - keeps disconnecting me

Help!

Is the battery fully charged? Do you realize that model is an albatross in that it is considered End of Life by Tomtom, meaning no more map updates? Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Didn't pay much - the battery is half charged - maybe I'll fully charge first ?

Yes. Also try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Unless that model has a dedicated reset hole.

There are a couple of reasons for this that, if you don't have success with the reset, we might try. It is possible that the device is sitting on a very old table of satellite locations, though after 10~12 minutes in clear skies, under the worst of circumstances, these devices will usually sort that out. Let us know how you get on after the reset. After that, we may be able to do a bit more.

I did this and heard the drum - let's see what happens
