Can I make hiking maps?

I want to take my One 3rd Edition hiking and have it record a map of the trail as I hike along it. I then want to get the map on my computer in some fashion or another.

Is this possible? I realize this is a driving GPS unit, but I just got it as a gift and it's all I have, so I figured I'd ask.

I'm open to putting 3rd party software on it and stuff like that.

If this is totally impossible with this unit, does anybody know of any GPS devices that will do it. I'm open to other brands, handhelds, etc. Hell, I'd buy an iPhone if it would get the job done. I have always had a desire to draw my own accurate and attractive trail maps.

Your best bet for this is to get a Garmin 60Csx. You can map trails etc etc. View some demos on youtube. Don't forget about batt powerloss on the Tomtom.

I agree. I'm not sure how rugged the TomTom would be. I used a Garmin 60CSx for years, even for auto navigation. I do lots of traveling and thought it would be good to have a GPS dedicated for the vehicle. Just my opinion but you may want to consider picking up a unit for your hiking.

eventlogger should do what you're asking when installed on the tomtom.

however, the tomtom isn't really a good hiking gps. There is no detail on tomtom maps offroad.
