Can A Guy Get Some Maps?

I've had a GO 300 for about 18 months now. Love a lot of the features, and comparing to similar priced Garmins, thought I got a great value. The thing has been a time saver for work, since I travel daily to different destinations. I even convinced my brothers to get one for Dad for Father's Day.

It figures, that's the day I tried to buy the latest maps for my GO. 9 attempts, with various credit cards, all with too much credit available, and every attempt to purchase the maps failed.

I tried to leave a message on the support page the first time it failed, but the support page wouldn't work, so I couldn't even do that. It (message board) finally started working late sunday night.

Now, after the 1-2 business days they say it will take to get back to you, I still haven't been contacted by them. Tried calling tech support, but ended up on hold long enough to kill my cell phone battery this afternoon.

Now I'm thinking Sam's Club has a Nuvi 200W for $179, maybe I'll just buy that and smash the TomTom and mail it to them, with a thank you letter for not taking anymore of my money, and for their wonderful customer service.

Anyone else had problems lately with their ordering system? BTW, it worked fine last year when I updated my maps.

How are you trying to buy the maps, via TomTom's store (a lost cause, usually) or via TomTom Home software --Add Maps/voices? If not the latter method, try that.

I've actually tried it both ways, with the same result either way. Definintely getting frustrated. And, TT still hasn't replied to my support questions.

Log into TomTom's web site. Set your country location to UK and then navigate to the Maps section and see if anything appears.

I'm in the US, and logging in on US shows the maps. Tried your way, can also find the maps. The problem isn't finding maps to buy, it's getting their system to accept an order.

Finally heard from Tech Support (after 5 days) and got the canned "call us" which normally doesn't work, since I work the same hours that tech support is open.

After 50 minutes on the phone with TomTom today they think they know the problem. When you order, either through Home or the website, your order is redirected to a server in the Netherlands.

Many credit card companies prohibit transactions that originate in one country, and are automatically redirected to another for processing, as TomTom does. It's one way of preventing credit card fraud. Evidently both of my credit card companies, and my bank subscribe to this idea.

So, now their accounting department is going to do a manual process to complete my order, hopefully today, so I can get my new maps.

The upside, since this fiasco started they put a 30% disount on maps, so I'm saving some money.

Errors when trying to order maps (HOME error)

I've been trying to order maps for months and keep getting the error:

"The internet server had an internal error. Try again later."

Apparently I have a bigger problem than just being able to order because I'm now getting an error when sending my problem report.

Any ideas what I can do?

I couldn't send my problem report via email but I could answer the survey.
Could it be how my directories are set up?

I can send a screen shot of my Program directories if someone thinks that the problems might lie there.

Thank you.

I wouldn't be surprised if German CS agents spoke English. Don't know whether the UK support number is reachable by you in Germany. It is: 08451610009

You can also try German CS and keep asking, "sprechen sie English?" and wait till you get a response of 'Jah!" :D

I'll give it a shot on Monday, but my experience with English speaking German CS is laughable. I understand and speak enough German to get around but not for technical stuff.

One other thing to try: start -> run -> and type in:

%appdata%

when you open that folder, rename Tomtom to TomtomOLD. That might fix your problems.

Also, see if you can copy/paste the full error message. We may be able to see something else wrong with the full message.

That happened to me as well. I learned a rude surprise when I tried to buy another year of RDS-TMC traffic service from the TomTom online store. The credit card billing site is in the Netherlands!

Instead of being refused, though, I got charged a hefty "international conversion" fee by my credit card company. It also triggered a fraud alert. The credit card company called me, and I had to authorize it in order for the charge to go through.

It's a disappointment, and a rather deceptive thing for TomTom to do to their USA customers. There should be a big warning message "Warning: Your credit card will be charged from the Netherlands. Please make sure your credit card is approved for international transactions."

It's just another sign that TomTom is abandoning the USA market. Good luck getting any helpful answers out of the poorly trained (but cheerful) tech support people they have here. Should have bought a Garmin....

Did you realise that the previous posts are nearly a year old?
