A week after I purchased my TomTom ONE 3rd edition - USA and Canada (is this the same as the LE), it stopped powering on when on battery. It would always power on on both USB and Car battery and then would keep working on the internal battery.
I thought it was hardware broken for a week. Thanks to this great forum, I learnt how to reset properly. (Reset button in, power on button in, reset botton off, power button off). The unit powers on battery correctly!

PS It might have started having the problem when I tried unsucessfully to put in a 2GB SD card with nothing on it - but that is another story
