battery life

Not very long. This is an issue that has been addressed before on this forum. I even went so far as to replace my battery, but still have a short shelf time. Apparently the GPS is drawing a power even though it is off.

How long should the battery last if it isn't docked, and not being used?

There are some who say a pin reset helps to prolong battery life. Don't know whether that has been proven, though.

Tested this myself on my ONE 2nd, and verified at work. Fully charge your TomTom on the computer for about 2 hours. Then soft reset your TomTom before you put it away if you know you won't be using it for a few weeks. This will give you about a 1.5-2 month battery life, after which it will be completely dead. If it has been completely drained, you will need to re-connect to your computer, soft reset, and let it charge for about 2 hours to get a full charge (I'd do this after a couple weeks of non-use, even if the battery wasn't dead anyway)

What is a soft reset exactly?

A soft reset is when you use a paperclip or similar in the reset hole of the unit. A hard reset refers to the menu option to return to factory settings.
