TomTom Model(s)
GO730
Hi, new to the forum and to owning a GPS. I just ordered a GO730 from Costco.com I have been lurking in the background for awhile trying to figure out what GPS I wanted (Garmin,TomTom, etc. and model). I see the FIRST thing to do is a back up of the unit. If my computer does not have the room on it, can I back up to a different storage like a SD card or a storage stick?
I am NOT computer literate, sorry if this is a dumb question.

You're welcome. Be sure to copy all the contents of the device. I would use windows explorer. Select all the files and copy them to your Media drive.

Pedro let's say something happened with my TT! I just need to copy paste all the files to the device again? Or is there a special procedure to do it?

Thanks

Yes that is all it takes. No special procedure.

hi, I noticed there are hidden files in the Tomtom root directory. Do we bother making them visible so that they can be backed up too?

I'm computer stupid. I did a back up, but don't have a clue about backing up "hidden files" Help???

Open up Windows Explorer.

Tools --> Folder Options --> View

Choose the option to show hidden files.

While you're in there, make sure that there is no checkmark beside "Hide extensions for known filetypes".

With this done, you can now copy all of the files manually from the TomTom to a folder on your computer.
