TomToms (130 and XL330s) both insist on using ferries wherever possible. Using "Navigate" from Essex Jct, VT to Albany, NY. The best, shortest and fastest route is 7, 22a, 4, 149 and 87 for a distance of 155 miles. The TomTom first selects a ferry (162 miles). When directed to avoid that ferry, it selects another (167 miles). When directed to avoid that ferry, it selects a third (190 miles). When directed to avoid that ferry, it selects a bridge that is being demolished and is impassible. The only way to get it to select the proper route is to crank in so many waypoint that it has no alternative.

Is there no way to simply command it to "AVOID FERRIES"?

Check under planning preferences and work through the screens. Avoid Ferries option should be one of them where you can select Always, Never or Warn me.

That said, the lower model units may not have all options for planning the higher end ones do. But if yours does have it, that's where it'll be.

I don't think the 330 has an avoid ferries option.

Also, check for "planning preferences" as that's where "avoid ferries" is in my 930.

If you don't have ferry avoidance you can use mapshare to erase the ferry paths (just don't share it with others).

No "avoid ferries" in 330

The 330 apparently has no "avoid ferries" option. I don't know if I can use Map Share to erase the routes or not.

Mapshare should work on the 330S, go to Map Corrections -> Block/Unblock, and then block the ferry lane(s).
