I have a tomtom 1 3rd edition. Somehow while updating my tomtom i got an error, and i lost the application the tomtom needs to operate, and i get stuck at the splash screen. When i connect the tomtom to the computer to update it with Tomtom home i get a runtime error. Is there any way to download the application and manually put it on the device under my computer? Any help would be great as i need it for a trip tommorow:(

If it is the Home software you need to download, here's a link: http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17&Lid=22

nope, i don't need Tom Tom home, it keeps giving me a runtime error when i try and connect the tom tom. And i've tried reinstalling, restarting i've tried everything, so thats why i was wondering if there was a way to upload the application directly under my computer.

nope that doesn't help either. I can not run tomtom home i get a runtime error, and i need to connect my tomtom to the home to add the application it needs to run. So i thought under my computer and under the tomtom device there may be a way to add the application to get the tomtom running again.

One 3rd Edition stuck on the startup screen

I had a very similar experience this week with my TomTom One 3rd Edition. I hadn't used it in about a month, so I connected to the computer for updates. Then it quit working properly. It would operate as long as the USB cable was connected to the computer, but it could not get past the intro screen while disconnected. The touch screen was unresponsive and the power button would not turn it off. I had to poke the reset button on the bottom of the unit to shut it down.

I emailed TomTom Support and they replied asking me to call 866-486-6866 for telephone assistance. I was on the phone with them for nearly 2 hours on a Saturday morning. They determined that the TomTom flash drive was somehow corrupted and needed to be reformatted. They talked me through the entire process and now it works like new. Caution - certain files must be backed up onto the computer before reformatting so they can be restored later. The remaining files can be downloaded from TomTom Home. I suggest doing this only under the guidance of the the TomTom support staff.

Kudos to Sam and Michael at TomTom Support. They were very friendly, knowledgable and professional.

Try this. Connect your unit via USB to the computer. Shut down the 'Home' program when it starts - we don't need it.

Open Windows Explorer. You will see your TomTom as an external hard drive.
Create a folder on your computer hard drive and copy the contents of your TomTom's internal memory to this folder for safe keeping.

I have uploaded the firmware from my own TomTom One here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ioxosljgyf2

Download it and unzip the file. Then copy all of these files to your TomTom, replacing all of the files with the new ones.

From what you say about the runtime error, it sounds to me like a problem with the Home program, but I can't be sure. (The TomTom runs on Linux, so I doubt if it uses runtimes which Windows does use.)

Good luck.
