Sorry to keep bugging you guys.. but I am a newbie..

I notice when setting a fav, by default it lists the street address, but you have the option to rename the fav. For example, I can rename 123 Main to John's Home.

However, once this is done, the actual addres is lost in the favourites. So, if I navigate to John's Home, and get there, the GPS says I've arrived at my destination - but on a busy street where the homes all look alike, and where I may not remember the exact address of John's home, I no longer have his address available. The GPS will lead me to the vacinity of the home, but not necessarily to the exact address.

So... I tried experimenting with different names.. like adding the address 'after' the description.. like "John's Home - 123 Main". But the GPS saves the information as "123 John's Home - Main". Totally useless! It always reformats the name putting any numerics first! Furthermore, it sorts the list by the numbers first.

Anyway around this? Or is this something that can/should be reported to TomTom to fix? Or am I just being too picky?

hey pilaar,
I don't have my TT with me, so I haven't tried this,
but have you tried John's home (123 main) ?
I don't know if this will make a difference, but i think it is a possiblity

Go to your preference page and look for manage favorites
You will see an option to rename the favorite

I have one called "Mama's Office -155 Dow St" and it shows up just like that...

I think, and I mean think... there is a "display" option somewhere... I cna't give better info right now. Wifey has my ONE as she needs to NAV tot he new house we are looking at... I already know where it is....

Yes, I tried:
Johns Home - 123 Main
Johns Home (123) Main
and
Johns Home (123 Main)
In this latter case, it saves as:
(123 Johns Home Main)
arrgh!!

does not make any difference.. it grabs the number and puts it first in the string.. which, as you can imagine, is somewhat annoying.

Just tried this with my TT ONE v1 and I get the same problem as Pilaar39. Have you tried saving it as a POI instead? That seems to work.

You might've had the option turned on. There is an option to list the number before the street name or after the street name. This might be why TT is putting the number before the entire name.

Edit: never mind, I tried that and it didn't work.

However, while it does organise by number first then alphabet, it still somehow recognises the exact input you entered for the favourite.

e.g.

Say you had the following

Alma
Barker
Cartier

Now you put Johns House 123 Main. If you go back to the Favourites menu, even though it now lists at 123 Johns House Main, it is NOT listed first before Alma but rather listed last after Cartier because you entered "Johns" first so it's listed under "J".

Therefore, your lists looks like this

Alma
Barker
Cartier
123 Johns House Main

Well, it may look like it works, but I don't like it.
If I am renaming the entry, it should accept it EXACTLY as I enter it.. not move phrases around. Sorry, but 123 Johns House Main just does not cut it for me. I think I will send TomTom a note on this.. and hopefully have it corrected.

Hi Pilaar.
Go to menu Change Preference/Name Preference.
What do have ticked ?
If it's 'Show house number before street name' then uncheck it, and choose 'Show Street name'.
Regards.

I am not familiar with that process.. bear with me.. just learning!

It's the same way you would save a GPS location as a favourite.

1. Go into the BROWSE MAP function

2. If you're already at the location of 'John House', tap the cursor button (the symbol thats divided into 4 parts)

3. Click 'Add as POI'

4. Choose which category to save this location. You can make a POI category called friend's houses if you wish (I'll explain that later if you want)

5. Now give the POI a name i.e. John's House - 123 Main

6. Enter phone number. You can press done if you want to enter a phone number.

Now when you bring up the POI it should view as you want it i.e. John's House - 123 Main

Indeed. But when you delete it, the name shows up exactly as you've typed it. Weird.

Do keep us up-to-date with TT's reply. Thanks!

no.. that does not affect the way names are saved in favourites.

What it does affect is the way the names are displayed when browsing the map.. when 'Show house number before street name' is checked, and you select a point on the map, the addres is displayed as "123 Main Street"

If the box is unchecked, it shows as "Main Street 123".

There is no chance to the fav.. it still lists with the number first

The reply...

Well, that was quick,, but unfortunately, not much help.. nor even an acknowledgement of the problem or that they will indeed fix it.

The response:
Thank you for contacting us regarding your TomTom GO 510 that is having problems to save the favorites. We are more than happy to assist you.

TomTom aims to offer products that completely meet user requirements. We would like to thank you for providing valuable feedback.
When they said they were more than happy to assist me, I thought I was going to get assistance. Instead just a thank you for my feedback

Hmmm, my guess is that the information was submitted to their developers, after all the agents aren't programers, sometimes one expects to have things corrected in situ, and further research is needed... in this case, it seems like a correction and new application needs to be released, don't you think?

I just found the solution to your problem!!!

Use the underscore!!

e.g. John's House_123 Main Street.

That'll show up in the favourites as John's House_123 Main Street, exactly the way you wanted it!
