720 can't find addresses less then 2 miles from my place. It's a pretty useless piece of technology!

It happens sometimes. You can usually trace it back to new subdivisions or roads. Actually it is not the TT but the maps that are the problem but since TT provides the maps they have to take the heat in my opinion.
Are the addresses all in the same area? Have you tried other addresses?

Besides Pedro's comments on the update frequency of their maps, you also need to realize that the TT can be a real stickler when it comes to searches. For example, I might know that "Some Street" only exists on the south part of town, and don't ever give thought to the fact that on the signs, it's officially "S. Some Street", but your TomTom does. Leave out the "south" bit and it'll tell you the street doesn't exist -- and it'll be right. Has fooled me more than once when I wasn't paying attention.

I've also noted that the TomTom gets pretty fussy about what you call the "city" in which you're searching, and I've had a few arguments with Suzie (I use the c.voice 'Suzan' on my 720) about whether an address is really within the incorporated boundaries of one of our many suburbs in the Denver area or not. Sadly, even when I'm right, Suzie wins the argument, pretty much like all of my female copilots do. In neither case do we get to our destination any faster, but it seems to make them feel good.

Streets get extended or new sections of buildings placed on them and the TT maps aren't yet aware of the addresses involved. In those cases, I just work with intersections.

The quirks can be a pain, but we learn to work around them.

If the address is fairly new (new build or in new development area), then don't expect Tomtom or any other GPS unit to show. It probably takes years or few map releases to get it in.
If the address is few years old and you know for sure that Google and Yahoo Maps have it, then you need to learn how to search using Tomtom. Get use to the weird searched engine.

Learning how to search isn't why I got it! I got it to type in an address, and for TomTom to get me there! I didn't think it was going to be such a trial and error thing.

Well normally I do not see this issue very much unless it is in a new construction area. But as noted the lag time for map updates is a bit slow to say the least. I can imagine how frustrating it is. I think it happens to us all at times but you seem to have an overload of it. Have you tried other addresses in more established areas?

Can you give us an example of the missing roads? Maybe the more recent maps have it. I've noticed tomtom map quality improved quite a bit in the last few map cycles.

865 S. oneida St. Menasha, Wi. 54952. It isn't new, it's been there forever!

Unless you're talking about the intersection of Five Oaks and Oneida Rd., you won't have any better luck with that address on Mapquest. There's evidently something odd about it that the mapping systems aren't happy about. They show it being called Oneida St. only above Midway, and Oneida Rd. south of there.

The maps may well be wrong, but their exceedingly fussy nature about things like Rd and St are required for disambiguation.

Tailwaggers Doggy Daycare, 865 S. oneida St. Menasha, Wi. 54952.

The street is on map v815, but the road is named "Oneida Rd." You can correct the name of the road on the tomtom, and it will call it "S Oneida St" when you drive there. The address database can't be edited though, so to go there in the future type in 865 Oneida Rd.

That's exactly why I never update my map. Until they get addresses figured out around here I won't. Superficial updates to other parts of the country don't concern me!

Both navigation map vendors (teleatlas and navteq) call this road Oneida Rd. They are probably both using an erroneous government database.

You can submit the road name change through mapshare and teleatlas.com. Teleatlas prioritizes its corrections based on the number of change requests. The post office database labels it Oneida St so you can refer to that usps zip code locator as a "source" in your correction.

This was fixed in application 8.350. Mapshare changes now affect the "Navigate to" address database.

I checked on my TomTom and that address is indeed weird. It has the road named properly (map 825), however the addresses only goto 799.

This is a relatively rare occurrence but it has happened to me a couple times. I probably use my Tomtom more then the average user too. And you'd PROBABLY experience this with all NAV devices...

What you have to keep in mind is the way these things work is they get a starting address and ending address for that street. Then it just evenly spaces them down the road, so it will get you close but rarely ever into the drive way. Unless everything lines up perfect (it happens).

So if you need to goto an address like that just get as close as possible then look for it. There isnt much to miss on Oneida St. its not like the middle of the city where it would take 20 minutes to circle the block. The road is on googlemaps.com street view, I just drove it....virtually lol...

If the road name isnt labeled properly then you may need to update your map. Like I said its fine in my GPS but the numbers are off. If its a new GPS you have a 30 day map upgrade for free from the time of first use. Also its important to use the mapshare feature and correct the map, that way it will eventually get fixed...

CAn your map find this address? W7084 Cty Tk P Menasha, wi. 54952. If it can I'll update my map. "P" is Plank road. Tom tom can't find any addresses with a letter in it. The majority of addresses around here have one in it!

No - Tomtom doesn't support alphanumeric street numbers.

What Tomtom usually does in larger cities is change the address to 7084 W Plank Rd, or 7084 Plank Rd.

It must be a manual correction, because In smaller cities the street numbers disappear. For this street, there are also no numbers on map 825.

Google maps supports this address, and is using the upcoming tomtom map (to be released in a few weeks). Post again when the new map is released and we'll see whether Tomtom fixed this.

If most roads in your area are alphanumeric, you may want to buy a Garmin instead.

addresses

That location is actually located in "the Town of Harrison", but he has a Menasha address. Tom tom doesn't show the Town of Harrison as a city.
