I am hoping this is the right forum for this issue ...

I purchased my Go 510 last week and have enjoyed using it. However, I just discovered that I am unable to navigate to a number of addresses that have been in a decent-size city for a very long time (I'm guessing 60+ years).

I know these streets are in the map data because they are displayed on the navigation screen when I drive down them. However, I am unable to select these streets on the street selection screen (after entering the city). I can also see these addresses on the map viewer screen.

I called TomTom support and they are trying to help. I have flashed the unit, reset the unit, re-installed the maps, and re-formatted the SD card along with reinstalling the software and maps. However, the problems are still ocurring.

Here is a sample of addresses that are giving me problems (all of which are in Oklahoma City, OK). I just randomly pulled some out of the yellow pages that are in the street ranges that are giving me problems.

4129 SE 20th St (Bank of Oklahoma)
6020 SW 3rd St (Applebees)
2700 NE 10th St (McDonald's)
2512 NW 23rd St (Clear Water Car Wash)
1501 SE 15th St (Torc Car Wash)

Here is my version info:
App 6.525
Map: 'USA_and_Canada' v665.1293

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

I tried to repeat the same process and also received no matches. However I went through each streat selection. Try this and see if it matches for each one.

Select: NW 20th st (Bethany) - check to see if this is valid.
Select: 6020 SE 3rd St (Oklahoma City, 73130) - check to see if this is valid
Select: NE 10th st (Choctaw) - check to see if it is valid
Select: NW 23rd st (Bethany) - check to see if it is valid
Select: SE 15th St (Choctaw) - Check to see if it is valid

I tried all of these selections and received something. Please confirm.

I am not able to find these particular city selections for these addresses in my TomTom. However, I am able to find other city selections when choosing these addresses. Sometimes, choosing another city (especially when that city is listed as East Canadian), it will actually route me to the address in Oklahoma City. Other times, it will route me to the address that is actually in these cities.

Pedro - What version of maps are you using? Thanks - Matt

Known problem with TT maps

I have run into this problem for months now and TT does not seem to understand the problem it creates.

TT requires the CITY and STATE first before entering a number and street. The problem is that the actual city bounderies are not exactlly where most people think. Suburbs and incorporated areas are NOT the main city, thus the street numbers are not in the city you have always thought. OKC is huge on a paper map, but in reality, it's composed of hundreds of small communities that are connected to OKC and creates a metro of OKC that everybody recognizes, everybody but TT.

For instance, here in rural Arkansas, I can seldom find an address because I don't know what "fire district" the specific address is located since there are no cities or towns in much of the county. When I put in all the known information, it finally fails saying the "number is not found" for that street in that city. After trying all the possible communities and fire districts around, I am finally able to locate the address. Not an easy way to do things.

The navigation system in my car does the search in the reverse order. It first asks for the number the street name and then gives me choices for clarification as to if it's a Road, Street, Avenue, Drive or whatever and finally a list of cities in my selected "zone" that have this address. My zone includes the states that touch Arkansas (except Texas). I can then choose which city fits the bill, usually just one for unique streets, 3-5 for most others and many more for "Main Street", of course. I can also enter part or all of the city name as well. Ease of finding an address is seamless.

Too bad TT does not listen to their customers. This is an on-going complaint. If you know where you are going, then why do you need a TT in the first place? The sole purpose of PND's is to get you to some place you don't know how to find, right?

And why do I have a TT as well? I had it first. Plus my Toyota Nav system does not give turn by turn directions off of the main US and State highways in my area even though the map shows my destination, it will not just give "turn righ" or similar when it no longer want's to pronounce all the small streets and road names. It just quits and shows a blue line. You have to constantly check the screen to see where to turn. TT will actually direct me to my carport. Now tell me, which is a safer PND? Now, please convince Toyota. And yes, my TT is in the glove box and is frequently used.

Thanks for all of the great replies.

I contacted TomTom support again today, and they basically said the only thing they can do for me is report it as a map issue. They said I might be able to fix my problem by purchasing the 6.75 maps. They would not offer a reduction in price or credit on this purchase. I am a little curious as to why they think reporting this as a map issue is a satisfactory resolution to my problem if the issue is already fixed in 6.75.

The customer service manager, Jesse, was really not very helpful or polite. I really don't think I am holding the unit to too high of standards. Perhaps it is a mapping problem, but the unit is not very functional for me if a number of streets in the heart of my city don't allow for address navigation. I have definitely tried to keep an open mind about TomTom, but today's customer service encounter soured me a little.

Jesse said if my maps were older than 6.65, then they might upgrade them for free. However, since I had the 6.65 maps they couldn't do anything. I told her I didn't care if I had to revert to a slightly older version of the maps, I just wanted the problem fixed. I am not chasing the latest and greatest versions with new suburbs, etc. I just want to easily navigate to addresses that are in the heart of a fairly large city.

Looking on the website, it appears this is ~ $140 US purchase given the 70 GB Pound price. Since I am within my return window, I am considering returning the unit. I like a lot of aspects of the unit, but with the customer support and the navigation issue, I am reconsidering my purchase.

If I can fix this problem for ~ $50 US in the next few months with a map upgrade, I would be willing to do it. However, $140 just seems way too steep given the price I paid for the unit. Does TomTom ever run map specials that would put the new maps in this price range?

I heard that only 6.75 & up are good for North America.

I am having the same trouble with my refurb 510. I just got it for Christmas and it is constantly locking up and a lot of my local cities aren't even listed, I can see them in the map view, but that is it. I have App 7.162 and maps 665.1293. still waiting on a response from Tomtom.

I am having the same issue with my 510 (a refurb as well) any city that begins with the letters A,B,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z will not show up in my searches. The weird thing is that they show up on my maps, but I am not able to search for them. Should I send it back while the window is still open, or has someone found a fix?
