Has anyone had any luck adding additional sounds for warning of nearby POIs? For example it might be nice to add a simple one-liner for a specific POI.
Yes, although there seems to be a debate as to where the resulting *.ogg file should go. For most, it seems to work when all is placed in the folder with the map. Others have reported that the *.ogg needs to be in the "sounds" folder. Easiest solution would be to drop a copy in both.
When using the above method the ogg file is chosen automatically by the software when you configure the Warn When Near POI option, the device screen will say "Is this the sound you want to hear?" even though it plays no sound, answer Yes and its fine, answer No and you get some stupid message about no photographs being found, at this point the device will lock up requiring a reset!
If you put the ogg file in the sounds folder you can call it whatever you want and the device offers you a list of sound files to choose from when setting up the Warn When Near POI option - Mike
I should also have noted that if you are following the TomTom tutorial above, there's no requirement that you create the *.ver file that they discuss. That would only be helpful if you were distributing your sounds to other users and trying to control the revision level.
