I guess I'm unclear about what you are trying to accomplish....

Where are you seeing the 'Add To' button that isn't working for you?

Is it in the emulator (Opeate my Unit) screen of Home? Is it in the Itinerary Planning screen?

Does your model HAVE Itinerary Planning??

Sorry not used to all the jargon yet!!

TomTom Home
Use Tom Tom Route Planner
Enter places
Route Plan and directions comes up
Click on one of the flags (Start or Finish)
choose 'Send location To Tom Tom device'
Then the 'button notice' appears in a new window
I am using IE V7
or Firefox1.9.2.18

Route Planner does not send routes, just specific locations.

If you WOULD like to use a tool to establish a route in Google and transfer it to your tomtom as an Itinerary, use TYRE which you can find here:

I just tried recreating what you've been doing and I'm afraid it worked fine for me.

As soon as you click on "send location to TomTom device", you should get a new web browser window open saying "Starting TomTom Home. If Home doesn't start within 5 seconds click here". Do you get that screen? Does Home start?

Home should then open a window entitled "Open address" "What do you want to do with the address?"
Followed by the three options "Show on map" "Navigate to it" or "Add as Favourite".

If you don't get any of that, I think the first thing to try is un-installing and re-installing TT Home with a fresh download from here.
