Activation code question

The basic question is, "Do I need one?"
I have 2 devices that run Tom Tom in-car GPS. One is an Ipaq PDA which runs Tom Tom Navigator 5 via a Bluetooth GPS receiver and the other is a Tom Tom Go 630 Traffic which I have just bought on eBay.
The TT Nav 5 software was a totally separate thing from the iPaq PDA and contained installation files and maps of the UK and Europe on 7 CDs. There is an Activation code with this which is entered on to the PDA when Tom Tom is installed. It may also need to be input if the maps are changed. I don't know about that because I never changed from the UK map.
The new device is working perfectly but, being a natural born worrier, I can't help thinking that if there is ever going to be an Activation code needed, it will be needed on mine sooner than later. The Tom Tom Go 630 came with a windscreen mount, in-car charger and a blank for the SD card slot. Nothing else.

So, has my device ever needed an activation code?
If so, can I retrieve the code from the device in case it is ever needed again?
Under what circumstances would I need an Activation code?

Many thanks for any info and apologies for firing off all these questions. You know what it's like when you get a new toy . :)

The activation code is required these days only for those who have purchased a M model which means lifetime maps. You don't seem to have gotten that so don't worry.

Just make sure you have a separate email address for each unit when you log into tomtom home with your units.

Your Go-630 doesn't need an activation code all map downloads and activations are automatically configured via the TomTom Home software, its quite different to what you have been used to with the PDA - Mike

Thanks guys. I couldn't have asked for better answers.
As for the point about using different e-mails for each Tom Tom unit when connecting to Home, that's a moot point. Now that I am sure that my new Tom Tom Go 630 is working correctly, I plan to sell the iPaq, GPS receiver and software on eBay.
Hopefully for more than I paid for the Tom Tom Go 630.
That would probably facilitate the removal of my dear wife's knives from my back . :argue: .

Cheers,
Steve

A legitimate map doesn't need an activation code. Your map is over five years old. Perhaps time for a new one?

Thanks dhn :) but i don't need a new map i just wanted to know if there is a way to activate the one i have or get a free map free map from the net??
thanks

Where did you get the one you have, may I ask? From TomTom? That's the only place to get legitimate (not hacked/cracked) maps.

Any discussion of the latter kind is not appropriate here.
