USB Connection

Ok, love the unit so far. However my biggest gripe is the usb connection on the bottom of the unit. Yeah, I knew of this going into it but it's a real pain. I have a perfect spot for it in my wife's car (yes, the unit is really for her, but I'm the gadget freak!) and my plan is to use velcro and rest it up on the dash. Works perfectly until need to charge it. I could probably still get this to work if I could find a flush / angled usb connection cable. Does anyone share the same frustration and or find an alternative solution?

I feel your pain... I wish they made a small dockign station for it. I've bben lookign for a 90 degree usb connection but have yet to locate one...

Well it's just a USB cable / power. I believe all USB cable must follow the same specifications; particularly since it's just for power. I could see data transfer being different but would think power would be the same. No?!?

Well one would think... but I'm not one to find out the hard way, that's for sure. I'll wait for someone else to let us know for experience or technical.

My RAZR phone has the same type of connector and I accidentally charged my ONE using my RAZR's cable. Nothing bad happened.

Does anyone know if the mini usb charger that comes with the Motorola Razor will work as a charger for the One? Both have the same mini USB port.

No problem at all. In case anyone was wondering, the Nuvi wall charger also works. :)

Good to know! thanks! Maybe this means the garmin car charger that was talked about in another thread works to charge the ONE in a car too....

Nice! There we have it.... fanchee's boo-boo proves it works! Greta job of testing that for us fanchee... deliberate or not. ;)

Mounting Option with Power connector

Hello -

Here is another option - There is a websire called ProClips USA (http://www.proclipusa.com/home/home.aspx)

They have a mount with a power connector bulit in (Item No. 215189 - Holder with Tilt Swivel and Charging Cable for Fixed Install)

A connector is permanently attached to the Holder?s base. From the back of the Holder's base there is a straight power cable attached. The straight power cable can easily be hidden between/through the dashboard panel sections so you have a "clean" set up with no cables hanging in front of the dashboard. The straight cable connects to a box (which you hide inside the dashboard) that converts the power from 12 V to 5V. At the other end of the box the power cable continue with a red and a black cord for plus and minus at the end. The red cord connects to a positive power source and has to be used with a 1.5 A fuse. The connectors used on the cables are Molex connectors.

Hope this helps..

Well I went ahead and picked up the Garmin charger. Works great! Check out how low profile it is.

iPod wall charger?

I have a USB wall charger for my iPod. I'm assuming it would work with a TomTom One...has anyone tried it?
