Hi, would someone please tell a newbie how to put Europe or NA map on SDHC card ? I was reading other threads about this and there is a suggestion to use windows Explorer, is it Explorer Internet browser or is something else? and if it is, how do I do that? Or is there any other way to put a map on SDHC card beside using Explorer? Thanks:confused:

Whichever map you want, Europe or North America has to be obtained LEGALLY from tomtom.com.

Assuming that to be the case, the usual method, is to insert the card into the unit, connect the unit to the computer, start Home, select internal or external storage, then go to Add Maps, purchase the appropriate map and have Home dl and install it to the selected storage area (internal or card).

If you already have a map stored on internal, then you don't need or want Home involved. Connect the unit to the computer with the card installed. Use Windows explorer to move the specific map folder (and contents) from internal to the card.

But ..... But .....

That will only work if you have a Go 7x or 9x model that sees internal and external storage in conjunction with each other.

If you just want to make a backup of your map onto a card, then use Explorer to COPY the map folder from internal to the card.

Why do I get a feeling you aren't telling us the complete story here ??

Thanks for the answer I'm still scratching my head don't know about this Windows Explorer what is it? is this Explorer Internet browser or is some other program and how do you copy internal map on to SDHC card?
I'm using Windows XP with Fire Fox browser. Thanks again

Windows Explorer (unfortunately, the browser Internet Explorer is named similarily and causes confusion) is the built in File Manager application.

You know how you use your mouse to select things on your screen, move them around and copy them to other folders? That's what DHN is talking about. Once you have your TomTom connected, you can view the internal and SD memory of the TomTom in My Computers just like you could a typical digital camera or thumb drive. That allows you to use your mouse to move the files around on your TomTom as well.

Some TomTom models don't care whether the map folders are on the SD card or internal memory. In your case (GO 730), this is true. So you can take an already installed map folder and move it back and forth between your TomTom's internal memory and your SD card and your TomTom will find it wherever it is.

To get the map installed in the first place, you pay TomTom for it (either by calling or, better yet, doing it via TomTom Home), and let the TomTom Home application on your PC manage the downloading and initial installation of your new map.

Be advised that maps are keyed to individual TomTom unit serial numbers, so you can't copy them back and forth between units.
