Hi
This is my first post, hope someone can help, I have just bought a 930 second hand but it won't charge up it works fine with the car charger but the battery will not hold a charge, does it just need a new battery?
Phil.

A GO930 would have been made around the beginning of 2008, I would have thought most models that age would have pretty knackered batteries by now.

My 720 from September 2007 has a battery that won't hold a charge more than 30 seconds. One of these days I'll actually use the changing battery manuals we have here, order the new battery and give it a go...

Chances are, I'll wreck the thing. :(

Be careful on the Go x20 or x30 models.... The battery is VERY firmly stuck to the main circuit board.

After a bit of struggling with it and pouring solvents behind it etc. it's far too tempting to use something to lever it up and to accidentally crunch one of the surrounding components.

I've seen the results of that more than one of those and I even did it myself once (I now have a Go720 that works fine except no bluetooth any more... )

Same as this guy... http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=86605&highlight=capacitor.
I'll get round to looking at it one day....

MikeA (who never shows up here anymore) suggested spraying WD-40 around the battery and letting it sit for 15 minutes to 'soften up'.

It's the lever thingy I'd probably break ........

As you're scrapping the old battery, one thing I may (or may not) have mentioned in the battery swap tutorial is the possibility of VERY carefully taking an X-Acto knife to the outer 'wrapper' and peeling it back, and removing the battery guts from the package. That leaves you with nothing more than the wrapper to contend with. One *could* even cut away all but the flat bit of the wrapper that is glued to the board and use some RTV to glue the new pack down on top of the old remaining bit of wrapper. DO NOT PUNCTURE ANY OF THE CELLS IN THE PACK.

Alternately, you may find the wrapper easier to remove when you can peel it up a corner at a time without having all of the guts prying against the board while you do so.

Depends upon where you source your battery, but I've seen the little Torx driver included with some to remove the screws, and sometimes also a small plastic tool for assisting in the removal of the old battery.

Probably one of these plastic things that I've never found to be any use for cracking cases apart!

Or maybe a tiny Torx screwdriver...

If you bring up google and type in framtronix you can get a replacement battery and tools required inc postage for £7.99. I just ordered this myself. Framtronix sell on ebay.

No charge

Hi
Thank for all your help, I've put a new battery in and it's working fine, I just need to
update it now so any tips would be great, do you have to pay for updates and is there any way
to find out when it was last done
Oh and it's a 530 not a 930, will have to go to specsavers:D

Depens upon the application you have installed.

Do you see satellite bars on the right side of the screen? If so, tap them. The next screen is the application installed.

Tap the version number and the next screen shows the map installed and its version.

It says "Map UK and Rep/Ireland v800.1727. Is that it, how do I find out how old it is.
btw thanks for this.
Regards Phil.

Maps are issued 4 times a year. The current is 885 and 890 is due literally any day now.

So count backwards......... 885 in Feb 2012, and 800 appeared in early 2008 or thereabouts.

Once again thanks.
