I just upgraded from a TTGo 500 to a 920, and while it's a big leap forward, I have a few questions. Using the cigarette lighter connection, my 500 would automatically start up and close down when I started/stopped the ignition on my car, but the 920 only closes down when I turn the car's ignition off. As I rarely remove my navigator from the windscreen, (yes, I'm prepared to take the risk), this is an annoying lack of convenience. Am I missing something? Is there a way to configure the 920 to also automatically start up when I turn my car's ignition on?

My second question concerns the "safety" messages that seem to litter the 920 but were nowhere to be seen on my TTG 500. You know the ones, "don't operate the device while driving", etc, etc. There's one every time it starts and seemingly more of them pop up from time to time for no apparent reason. I guess they are there to lessen the threat of successful litigation against TomTom, but they are incredibly annoying and time wasting. Is there a way to switch them off permanently?

Lastly, how can I tell if my 920 is just that, or a 920T?

Thanks in anticipation. I'm looking forward to many more years of TT fun!

1) No you can not. This seems to be available only for the x00 and x10 range.
2) Which safety messages are you refering to? The navcore 7 does more features than the navcore 6 such as help me.
3) the 920 and the 920T are the exact same devices. the 920T comes with the TMC Traffice Receiver.

OK, thanks Pedro2NR. I wonder why they changed the automatic startup feature? It's a pain having to start it manually every single time - hopefully they'll change this back in one of the software/firmware upgrades.

The "safety" messages I refer to are the ones which warn against operating the TTG920 whilst on the move, placing the device in a safe place in your car, and also warn against following a spoken instruction until you've checked the traffic situation. They occur on every start up, and every time I plan and select a route. They require that you read the message, then press the continue button, before it will complete start up or show the planned route. They never appeared on my old TTG500 and appear to be no more than an annoying sop to an over litigious society. I've read them and understand them, now I want them to go away for good.

Still not sure if I'm 920 or 920T. Is the TMC Traffic Receiver a piece of hardware or is it software I can see through TT Home?

Thanks once again.

The TMC receiver is that thin wire that plugs into the bottom of the device. It has a bulge in the middle of it and it also has 3 small suction cups to stick to the windscreen. The "T" version is simply a box with the 920 and this TMC wire.

Go to the preference menu page 1 and select safety preference. Go through the list to see if anything is checked you do not want to be warned about.

A big thanks for the help guys, I guess I have a standard 920 and not a 920T. I was also able to remove the warning messages that were so annoying - I guess I missed that one when reading the manual.

I'm still puzzled as to why TomTom make you manually start the 920 up each time 'though - a significant convenience step backward in my opinion.
