Well purchased new auto with built in NAV system so didn't use 910 for a month or so. Tried to and it would not start. Hooked up to HOME and it showed battery charging and discharging so I figures Battery shot after 3 years. Messed around with it on Home ,not really knowing what I was doing and tried to restore program. To make a long story short I have it running again BUT I cannot turn it on unless it is docked and using external power (battery indicator shows full charge) and when I remove it from dock or power source I no longer get the count down to shut off. Prior to this All I had to do was plug it in and it came on and locked on satellites. What have I done and any suggestions on fixing it?

That does sound rather like the battery is shot, if you want to have a go at changing the battery it is possible but be aware the battery was the very first item they installed when the device was assembled, I have some pictures showing how to do this on the PC at home if they will be any use, in short:

Remove the four Torx screws from the base of the device (they are under the ends of the rubber strips
Remove the rear Cover.
Remove the two torx screws securing the GPS Patch aerial
Remove the patch aerial (it just pulls off once the screws are out)
Remove the screws securing the main PCB to the chassis
Raise the PCB slightly to access the two ribbon cables, release each cable in turn
Release the Microphone cable
Release the battery connector
Remove the main PCB
Remove the screen bezzel
Remove the screen - Not easy as it has to be pryed out
Release the screws retaining the Hard Drive
Remove the hard drive

Now you can get at the battery - its not difficult, but even when you know what to do it can still around 40 minutes to swap out a battery on a 910, I did the last one sat in a bar much to the amusement of the others sat nearby!
If you think pictures showing the above will be of use let me know and I will add them to the above text - Mike

Have you tried a unit reset?

Yes that was the first thing I tried. Guess I'll order a battery and use some spare time to tear it apart. Used it this morning in my vehicle and it worked fine. Just like my in car NAV but like the speed display. Thanks all.
