I HAVE THE 920T AND JUST INSTALLED THE 8.350 APPLICATION. UNFORTUNATLY i FOUND 2 PROBLEMS. AS EVERYONE KNOWS THAT WHEN TRAVELING FROM POINT A TO B THE RECEPTION ON YOUR RADIO CHANGES ACORDING TO THE DISTANCE FROM THE TRANSMITTER. SINCE NOW WHEN USING THE RADIO FM TRANSMISSION FOR DIRECTIONS, THE DIRECTIONS THAT TOM TOM GIVES VIA THE RADIO CUT OUT WAY TO SOON AND THE VOICE GOES BACK THE THE TOM TOM UNIT SPEAKERS AS THE SOUND LEVELS CHANGE IN THE RADIO. THE SPEECH RETURNS TO THE TOM TOM UNIT WAY TOO SOON AND THE LEVEL OF MUSIC IN YOUR RADIO BEGINS TO CUT OUT. TOM TOM REALLY HAS TO EVALUATE THIS TYPE OF RADIO TRANSMISSION. iT REMINDED ME OF THE 910 UNIT WITH THEIR DOCKING STATION IN THE AUTO WHEN IT HIT A BUMP THE FM TRASMISSION WOULD CUT OUT ALSO
SECONDLY THE LOUDNESS OF SPEECH IN MY 920 BEFORE THE 8.350 UPDATE I WAS USING 90% OF THE MAXIMUM SOUND OUTPUT. AFTER THE NEW DOWNLOAD THE SOUND IS NOT AS LOUD AND I HAD TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF OUTPUT TO 100% AND EVEN AT THIS LEVEL IT IS SLIGHTLY LOWER IN SOUND THEN MY ORIGINAL 90% I THINK THEY CHANGED THE SOUND LEVEL BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING THAT WHEN TALKING LOUNDLY SOME OF THE SPEECH WAS DISTORTED. AGAIN TOM TOM SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER RESEARCH AS TO THE PROPER LEVEL OF MAXIMUN SOUND. MY ONLY COMMENT IS THAT THEIR MUST BE SOME BETA TESTING IMPROVEMENTS BEFORE RELEASE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT ITS BETER TO TAKE A LITTLE MORE TIME IN THE IMPROVEMENTS THEN RELEASING VERSIONS NOT PROPERLY TESTED. NOW THEIR WILL BE COMPLAINTS AGAIN THAT SHOULD NOT BE.

For the new app, you have to play music through FM in order to use the FM for direction, so if you stop the music, the direction won't transmit to FM signal, and will only come up through the TomTom unit itself

As for the volume level, I personally think that it is loud enough, even I kept it at 75% all the time. If you are using the FM tuner, remember that its volume will set to 55% and you won't be able to change it on the TomTom unit, and you can only change it on your radio

FM and Sound

Its not that I stopped playing music. i can stll listen to the music fairly well but in an occasional fadout it will disconnect from the radio . This occasional fadout that people get while driving should not be so sensitive to disconnect so fast. As far as the sound is conconcerned both myself and two friends that have this particualar tom tom (920t) we all had the lowereing of the volume with this download. I have no idea about other units. But normally 80-90% volume now has to be raised to 100%. I definately do not like volume too loud. . We all had to do about the same increase in our units. in other tom tom units it may be totally different.

I have the same problems with volume on my 930 after the update it has made the unit all but useless even on 100% you can hardly hear it, I am most disapointed surely Tom Tom test these thing are do they leave it to joe public to to their testing for them.
Not impressed at all

I'm somewhat confused ,if you are using the station that TOMTOM recommends (89.9MHz),then there shouldn't be any fadeout ,as the distance between the transmitter(TomTom ) and the receiver (car radio) doesn't change?

I too definately noticed the volume issue with the 8.350 app. . Last night I updated my maps and noticed I lost the favorites category as well as manage favorites. I reinstalled my backup from home wihic still had the 8.302 app and I much happier with the sound.

Suggesting a specific frequency is a non-starter. However, there are services that do a decent job of locating the best frequencies to use for a specific zip code. These usually take into account both location and power of possible interfering stations:

DLO | OpenFM

SIRIUS Satellite Radio - My SIRIUS Frequency Finder

I find the results of the first one to be the most realistic and provides better detail.

Be happy you are not in an area prone to interference from radio frequency drift across the ocean. I live on the east end of Long Island, NY, and on a clear day, radio stations from Providence, RI can drift in somewhat off frequency from the ocean/salt water and come in on the only frequency that really is clear. Stations from closer to NY City and Connecticut also come through out here, causing virtually no free spots on the FM "dial".

There's two reasons for a cutout.

1) The most common is that the radio station got so strong that your car decided it was the "right" signal to lock onto and the car ignored the tomtom broadcast. However, the tomtom shouldn't have started speaking through your speakers.

2) It appears that your Tomtom's FM transmitter is shutting off, because the tomtom (which doesn't have an FM receiver, just a transmitter) knew enough to start sending info via the internal speakers.

I've noticed the music stop playing spontaneously in 8.350 (causing the FM to shut off) when I lose data reception on my bluetooth connected phone. I think that's some kind of bug in the firmware, but my phone isn't on the tomtom compatibility list so I can't really complain. In fact losing data reception seems to completely bug out the tomtom - sometimes I'll start a song and the wrong song plays, or sometimes it does a lockup and hard reboot. I don't know if this is what's impacting you.
