720 Car Charger question

We (wife and I) have apparently lost the 12 volt car charger for our 720. I think there are some speific considerations about getting a replacement.

I tried a Motorola charger (3.something volts) while in the car, but it still ran down. Is the tomtom greater than 3.x volts; is this why this happened? I have also noted eBay non-oem chargers with a statement to the effect that the device will not work while plugged in to the charger being offered.

I would simply buy an OEM directly from TomTom if they were available.

Thoughts, suggestions,anything?

I bought a charger for the 720 at circuit city. It was a TomTom charger.
