TomTom Model(s)
TT One V2
Hi, everybody.

I installed a new map to a 4GB SD card but my TT1 V2 doesn't accept it. Is there a limit to the size of the SD card? I get a visual on screen that puts an "X" through the card. The card is formatted FAT32.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

TomTom wants "FAT", not "FAT32" formatting...

Hi, everybody.

I do believe that the TomTom OS has a maximum memory address space of 2GB. That's a hardware limitation that isn't likely to change on the current devices...but who knows?..Maybe TomTom can pull a rabbit out of its hat.

The other consideration is the format type. Most small, hand-held devices have trouble with anything but "FAT" or "FAT16" format type. The "FAT32" format has not been widely adopted by low-power hardware manufacturers. The FAT or FAT16 specification is limited to an address space of 2GB.

Warning... Don't waste time trying to format your 4GB card with FAT or FAT16. The card will only be formatted up to 2GB. The balance of the card's capacity will be unavailable.

Are you sure it is not an SDHC card? They are not the same spec as SD cards and are not compatible with a TomTom.

Although 4Gb cards are not officially supported by TT, people have got them to work. Double-check that you are not suing an SDHC card.

do you have the system files on the card as well as the maps?

not sure about all units, but my one boots from the card when a card is inserted and a new card exhibited the x you're seeing. no system files. it's like trying to start a computer with no operating system.

make a backup of the unit without a card inserted, then install the card and restore the backup to the card. it should then boot up with the original maps and you can then install the new maps.

BTW fat32 format works in my unit.

Hi, flyer1024. How do I get the system files on the card? What are they? I've already made an original backup. (Thanks to you guys)

However, when I insert the card I get the display of an "X" and nothing else. Even when I connect to the computer, I can't access the TT1.

How can I restore a backup to my SD card then? I guess I'll need to try a 2GB card. Any ideas?

BTW, it's not a SDHC card.

Thanks.

There is a sticky in the TomTom One section for a 2G card. It should be similar.
If you have a backup, why don't you restore it ? If you add stuff, be sure that you leave some breathing spaces (TomTom needs to write temporary files to the SD while navigating).
** Note: Be sure to have the system show all System, Hidden files while manipulating the card.

mine when plugged to the computer still showed the x as well, but using home I selected the restore option and every thing just copied over to the sd card. took a while.

mine was a one gig card so I had to then delete my original maps. you shouldn't have to do that. using home install the new map folder and restart the unit. you should then be prompted for the activation.

after that, use the change prerences option to the select map page.....select the map you wish to use.

After many tries, I bought a 2GB SD card, formatted it, installed the sytem files and map. It now works!

One of the obstacles I had was somehow I transfered the map files outside of its folder into the SD card. Once I placed the map files in its folder, TT loaded the map.

Thanks for all of your help. I look forward to playing with my new toy.

SD card for Carminant built-in

FYI: 4GB SDHC "gaming" card works great in my 2010 Grand Scenic IIII built-in Carminant system.
