Having problems getting past the splash screen on my 1535 via.I've tried a reset by keeping the 0n\off button pressed to no avail. This is all new to me, so would this problem occur if the unit was not fully charged, and can the unit be charged using the USB on my computer? When I tried to d\l the maps I reached about half way and a message came up that there was a problem. Thanks Keith

Lots of different questions.
No, if the battery were toast, it wouldn't stick on the splash screen. It would just shut off.
Yes, you can charge from your computer's USB port. It will take somewhat longer than if you were charging in the car.
Let's get to the meat of your problem .. the map situation. Were you trying to download and install the 880 map update? There are two processes involved - one is downloading the map to your PC, and the other is installing the map on your unit. When you reached half-way, which step was it on, or do you know? Have you tried reconnecting your 1535 to your PC to see if the update progresses further?

I had gotten this unit for Christmas and was attempting to install the maps. I don't know at what particular point I was, but I think somwhere around 47%. Where I can't get the unit past the splash screen, I have no idea whether it is fully charged or not, so I have it hooked up to my computer right now. Is there a light or something to designate that it is in fact charging on the unit? When I hooked the unit back up to hopefully charge, it did not continue the map d/l. Thanks for your quick response. Papat

No, unfortunately these newer units don't have lights to indicate charge level.

Guess we need to see what is in your TomTom system cache, if anything. Click on the double red hands in the systray and select "Settings". Click on "Cache". Is the cache for large items selected? If so, do you know if your PC is configured to show hidden files and folders? If not, let me know, along with what OS you are running. On an XP machine, for example, you would find the TomTom cache here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Anderson\Local Settings\Application Data\TomTom\HOME3\cache

We need to check to see if there's something there of an appropriate size to be a map and whether it is intact on your PC or not - I can't tell if the failure was the download or the transfer to your unit yet.

As I asked previously, "Have you tried reconnecting your 1535 to your PC to see if the update progresses further?" If the map download failed, MyTomTom should pick right up where it left off. What does the web page say when you connect your unit?

Logging on to TT this morning and it called for an update, that cured my problem. Thanks for all your help, you've been super.Papat

To be honest, I just went ahead and clicked 'update' and did not note the specific update, but I think it took 10 minutes or so. Thanks.Papat

Sounds to me like the map update stalled in the transfer to your TomTom, and restarted itself once you were connected again.
